About the Artist: Dan Withrow

As a child I used to enjoy family sightseeing Sunday drives. We lived in the country, and I remember loving the beautiful landscapes from my window vantage point in the backseat. Later, when I was in my early twenties, I was visiting my parents, and my mother noticed that I was bored. Her attempt at a remedy was to give me her 35mm film camera. I traveled to a nearby nature preserve and took some photographs. Thus began a cherished lifetime hobby of photography and printmaking. I preferred being self-taught, so I did a lot of reading. Through that process, and the continual trial and error and feedback of viewing rolls of film on a lightbox, I honed my craft. The excellent work of Oregon photographers Christopher Burkett and Gary Tepfer inspired and motivated mme. I traveled all over the western United States during vacations and weekends photographing. This and printmaking proved to be valued and ncessary forms of stress relief for me from a stressful career of investigating child abuse and neglect complaints for the State of Oregon. Hopefully, through viewing these prints, you will enjoy these beaufiful and peaceful locations as much as I did.
