Artist statement

Years ago I discovered a quote by Paul Valery:

“Art has been defined as that which allows us to see more clearly the truth, celebrates the simple beauty and spirit of the subject while rescuing us from the purely mundane.”

Since then I’ve tried to create artwork that is inspired by this statement. Sometimes I succeed and the feeling of accomplishment is unbelievably rewarding, other times I fall short but am always encouraged to try again and again. I believe that a good portion of my work on display here touches the truth and the rest are near misses but still noteworthy and encouraging.
